Kathmandu University concludes interaction programme with international professors

Kathmandu, January 13
Kathmandu University organised an interaction programme with international professors currently teaching at the university on Monday. The programme was held at the university’s School of Management premises in Lalitpur.
The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Achyut Wagle, Registrar Prof Dr Rajiv Shrestha, deans of various faculties, and more than a dozen professors from different countries.
The interaction was organised to facilitate the exchange of experiences among international professors teaching at the university. During the programme, participating professors shared their experiences of living and teaching in Nepal, the academic environment, students’ curiosity, and aspects of intercultural learning.
Speaking at the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Wagle said the university has adopted a clear policy to encourage international professors. Expressing confidence that international academic practices and experiences would strengthen teaching and learning at the university, he also reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to appointing more international professors.
At the programme, Thomas Doctor, Head of the university’s Buddhist Studies Programme, noted that global interest in studying Buddhist traditions in Nepal is on the rise. He said the international nature of such programmes has created further opportunities in this field.
More than a dozen international professors participated in the programme. Currently, Kathmandu University has around two dozen international professors teaching across various disciplines. In line with its policy of appointing international faculty members, the university recently invited applications from international professors. According to the university, around 400 applications were received, and the appointment process is being advanced by different schools based on need.
In line with its policy of providing quality higher education through international collaboration, Kathmandu University has so far signed cooperation agreements with 300 academic institutions. International students make up 12 percent of the university’s total graduates.
