KATHMANDU: In Surkhet, two children drowned in a pit dug for house construction near their home.

The victims are 7-year-old Khemraj Katwal and 5-year-old Deepika Katwal, children of Tek Bahadur Katwal, originally from Tilagufa Municipality–9, Kalikot, and currently residing in Birendranagar Municipality–9.

DSP Mohan Jung Budhathapa, spokesperson for Surkhet District Police, stated that the children fell into the pit near their house.

Locals found them submerged on Monday evening and alerted the authorities. The police rescued them and took them to Province Hospital, Kalagaun, where doctors declared them dead.
