KATHMANDU: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei on Tuesday said stopping American and Israeli attacks is the only way to end the ongoing conflict.

Speaking at a weekly press briefing at a Tehran school damaged in recent airstrikes, Baghaei outlined Iran’s preconditions for peace.

He stressed that while Iran pursued diplomacy to prevent war until the last moment, the other side chose to escalate hostilities.

Baghaei urged the international community to take timely measures to prevent the conflict from spreading across West Asia.

Addressing questions on possible Arab alliances with the US against Iran, he reaffirmed Tehran’s principled policy of maintaining friendly relations with neighboring countries.

He added that Iran’s retaliatory measures against the US do not signal hostility toward regional states. Baghaei condemned the attacks on Iran as unjustified and warned that failing to take action could ignite wider regional warfare.

The tensions follow a joint US-Israel airstrike on Tehran and other Iranian cities last Saturday, which killed senior military commanders, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s family members, and civilians.

In response, Iran launched missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli sites and US military bases across the Middle East.
