Yari customs office closed for 3 months due to extreme cold

Adanchuli (Humla), January 13
The Yari border customs office at Hilsa has been closed for three months due to extreme cold.
The customs office was shut down after trade activities came to a halt as the import of goods and the movement of traders from Taklakot in China stopped because of severe winter conditions.
Office Chief Ramraj Jaisi said that imports from China’s Taklakot stopped from the beginning of Poush, and since the second week of the month, the Yari border customs office has remained closed, with staff relocated to the contact office in the district headquarters, Simkot.
He said the decision to close the office and shift staff to Simkot was taken in coordination with the Customs Department after imports from Taklakot ceased.
Although there has been no snowfall this year, snow that fell in Kartik last year has frozen along the Nara road section, blocking the road and halting transportation services. As a result, imports from Taklakot have also stopped, Jaisi said.
With no trading activity taking place, staff were moved to the contact office in Simkot instead of remaining stationed at Hilsa.
Jaisi said the Chinese side of the border remains open. According to him, the Yari border customs office is expected to resume operations in the second week of Chaitra, when staff return to the post.
He added that since last Shrawan, the Yari border customs office has collected Rs 1.865 million in revenue, doubling the amount collected during the same period last year.
