KATHMANDU: Tundikhel was alive with the festive spirit of Maghi on Thursday, as the Tharu and Magar communities celebrated the occasion with vibrant cultural displays and traditional delicacies.

Visitors to the event could explore a variety of indigenous foods at the stalls, including dhikri, ghongi, bhakka, pithaura, gundruk, sinki, dhido, chicher, sidra, kodo and phapar’s roti, and bhang’s pickle, alongside locally brewed traditional drinks.

These age-old dishes are more than just food—they represent the communities’ lifestyle, connection with nature, and cultural identity.

Maghi marks the start of the new year, fostering social harmony and shared identity.

The celebration at Tundikhel provided an opportunity for the public to experience the rich cultural heritage of the Tharu and Magar communities up close.
