Home Minister calls for stronger earthquake-resistant construction
KATHMANDU: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has emphasized the need to make the campaign for earthquake-resistant structures more effective.
Addressing a program on the occasion of National Earthquake Day, Minister Aryal highlighted the importance of enhancing preparedness, response, and reconstruction capacities across government agencies, the private sector, NGOs, construction professionals, and local communities.
He stressed the need to strengthen the capabilities of all levels of government in search and rescue operations.
Minister Aryal also pointed out that reinforcing institutional coordination among federal, provincial, and local governments is a top priority for disaster risk reduction and management.
To achieve this, he urged increased public and private investment.
He added that effective, technology-based multi-hazard early warning systems can aid preparedness and minimize loss of life and property.
Highlighting the need for result-oriented programs grounded in sustainable development, Minister Aryal called for special attention to preparedness and the construction of robust structures, underlining that earthquake-resistant construction must be made more effective.
