Art from 10 countries on display at heritage exhibition
KATHMANDU: A three-day art exhibition featuring works by artists from 10 countries was held at the Nepal Tourism Board to promote tourism.
Organized jointly by the Nepal Tourism Board and Sushma Art Gallery, the exhibition focused on culture and heritage.
According to curator Sushmaraj Bhandari, the event displayed 60 artworks that highlighted Nepal’s rich traditions.
Among the participating artists, Uttam Dangol centered his work on Pashupatinath, combining elements of local art to depict Hanuman, Bhairav, Nag Devata, and Ganesh in a single canvas using waterproof acrylics. He said, “I transformed traditional folk motifs into a modern style, presenting heritage in a contemporary medium.”
Jyoti Khadka presented paintings in oil capturing old Kathmandu, with Mahaboudha Stupa as a central theme. She highlighted lost aspects of culture and traditions, rather than focusing solely on temples, houses, and wooden carvings. “I aimed to revive the old cultural elements that are disappearing from Kathmandu,” she explained.
Sushmaraj Bhandari also showcased a series of Ganesh paintings, with one piece priced at Rs 100,000.
Several other works from the exhibition have already been sold.
The exhibition featured 60 artworks from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Ghana, the UK, the USA, Japan, Russia, and Indonesia, including 15 works by foreign artists.
Senior Nepali artists such as Radheshyam Mulmi, Govind Dangol, and Bijay Thapa also participated, adding further prominence to the event.
