Non-essential vehicles banned from midnight tonight
KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has enforced a nationwide ban on the operation of vehicles—except those providing essential services—from 12:00 midnight Wednesday until 5:00 pm Thursday, targeting the smooth and secure conduct of the House of Representatives elections.
The restriction has been imposed as part of tightened security measures to ensure a free, fair, and orderly voting process.
The Commission had earlier recommended the government halt non-essential vehicular movement during the polling period.
According to Information Officer Suman Ghimire, the ban will remain in effect until voting concludes. However, three categories of vehicles will be allowed to operate without disruption.
These include vehicles providing essential services such as ambulances, fire engines, hearses, blood transport services, and vehicles involved in drinking water supply and electricity maintenance.
Additionally, blue-plated vehicles belonging to diplomatic missions and vehicles with official passes issued by the Election Commission or the respective District Administration Offices will also be permitted to operate.
The Commission has urged voters and travelers to reach their destinations before the restriction comes into force.
It has also requested the public to coordinate with the nearest security agency in case of any obstruction or emergency during the restriction period.
Security bodies, in coordination with the Commission, will facilitate necessary assistance if required.
The Election Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a secure environment throughout the electoral process.
