Gen-Z Parsa urges stricter control at the Nepal-India border

Kathmandu, December 1: After Bangladeshi Rohingyas expelled from India began entering Nepal through various border points, Gen Z youths of Parsa have demanded stricter control at the Nepal–India border.
The Gen Z youths of Parsa drew the attention of the local administration, demanding measures to stop the infiltration of Rohingyas and other illegal activities taking place through the open border between Nepal and India. On Sunday, a group of youths organized under the name “Gen Z Group Parsa” submitted a memorandum to Parsa’s Chief District Officer (CDO) Bhola Dahal, urging action to halt infiltration and other unlawful activities occurring through the Parsa border points connected with India.
Submitting an eight-point demand, the Gen Z youths said that misuse of the Nepal–India open border is increasing and that infiltration from India, human trafficking, and organized criminal activities have risen as a result. They demanded effective control measures.
The youths demanded the establishment of “verification booths” at all Parsa border points to check identity documents, installation of CCTV cameras and drone-based digital surveillance, Nepal–India joint patrolling, a “zero tolerance” policy, and the launch of special anti-trafficking campaigns.
Stating that illegal activities are likely to increase even more at the border as the upcoming election approaches, they warned that such activities pose a serious threat to Nepal’s national security and social harmony.
Bishes Shah, a leader of the Gen Z Group Parsa, said that individuals who illegally enter Nepal through border points from India often engage in criminal activities, disturb communal harmony, and conduct illegal financial transactions while staying in Nepal. He said that therefore strict monitoring by the local administration and police is necessary. Shah added that Rohingyas who were earlier living in India after being expelled from Bangladesh have recently begun fleeing into Nepal due to tightened measures by the Indian government, and that therefore strict and vigilant border control by security personnel is essential.
Receiving the memorandum, Parsa’s CDO Dahal said that the concerns and worries of the youths are valid.
