KATHMANDU: Koshi Province’s main border points with India have been completely closed for 72 hours starting midnight Monday in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Authorities have stepped up security along the border as the election “silence period” begins, enforcing strict measures to prevent any activities that could influence the vote. The border closure will remain in effect from 12:00 AM on March 2 to 12:00 AM on March 5.

The “Closed Border Protocol” has been implemented to halt unauthorized movement and block any activities that could disrupt the electoral process. The checkpoints at Kakarbhitta, Bhadrapur, Pashupatinagar, Jogbani, and Bhantabari are fully sealed, suspending passenger traffic, commercial transport, and trade activities.

Joint patrols by the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and other security agencies have been intensified. Officials have warned that anyone attempting unauthorized border crossing, smuggling, or violating the election code of conduct will be immediately detained.

Security teams have deployed mobile patrols, surveillance units, and reserve forces along the border, with additional personnel ready for rapid deployment if needed. Authorities urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the closure, disregard rumors, and strictly follow the law.
