Kathmandu, Jan 1: The government has formed a negotiation team to hold talks with hunger striker Dr. Nicholas Bhusal, who has put forward a five-point demand including action against those responsible for the incidents of August 10 and 7, abolition of the National Assembly and provincial structures through constitutional amendment, and implementation of a directly elected executive prime ministerial system.

The negotiating committee has been formed under the coordination of Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor Ajay Bhadra Khanal. Other members include Prime Minister’s Public Relations Advisor Govinda Narayan Timilsina, Joint Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal, and Kathmandu Chief District Officer Rajendra Paudel.

Dr. Bhusal was admitted to Bir Hospital on Wednesday after his health deteriorated due to the hunger strike. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal visited Bir Hospital the same day to inquire about his health condition.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma issued a statement on Thursday announcing that the party’s regular 15th general convention has been postponed and will instead be held as a special general convention.
