Nepal Calls for Stronger Multilateral Action at UN Security Council Arria Formula Meeting
Kathmandu: The Deputy Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, Gyan Bahadur Magar, addressed the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) Arria Formula Meeting on Peacebuilding, emphasizing the need for strengthened global efforts to address emerging peace and security challenges.
During his address, Magar called for more agile, robust, and coordinated multilateral action to respond effectively to growing global threats. He stressed the importance of prioritizing conflict prevention and early engagement, including the meaningful participation of women, youth, and local peace actors, to ensure sustainable peace outcomes.
He also highlighted the need to address the structural and root causes of conflict, such as persistent poverty, hunger, inequality, and social exclusion. Emphasizing nationally led and inclusive peace processes, Magar underscored the importance of stronger local, regional, and global partnerships, along with greater coherence across the United Nations system.
