KATHMANDU: Real Madrid missed the chance to close the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona after suffering a surprise 1–0 defeat to Getafe at Santiago Bernabéu.

The decisive moment came in the 39th minute when Martín Satriano’s precise header beat goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, handing Getafe an unexpected lead they would hold until the final whistle.

This marks Real’s second consecutive loss in La Liga. After 26 matches, Real Madrid now trail Barcelona by four points, with both sides having played the same number of games.

Kylian Mbappé remained sidelined due to a knee injury, while Jude Bellingham was also unavailable through injury.

Despite constant pressure and attacking play, Real were denied by an outstanding performance from Getafe keeper David Soria. Vinícius Júnior came close but failed to find the net.

The match ended in further drama as Real’s Franco Mastroianni received a red card after a late dispute with the referee, while Getafe’s Adrián Liso was also sent off for a second yellow.

Real Madrid will next face Celta Vigo on Friday.
