Kathmandu: UN ECOSOC President Lok Bahadur Thapa met with Jonibek Hikmat, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations, on January 14 to discuss key issues of global cooperation.

Their discussions focused on the 4th High-Level Conference on “Water for Sustainable Development,” scheduled for 25–28 May 2026 in Dushanbe, as well as progress on Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 7 at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). They also highlighted the urgent need to protect water resources, mountains and glaciers.

The meeting further covered important upcoming UN ECOSOC forums, including those on Youth, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), Financing for Development (FfD), and special sessions on financial integrity and credit ratings.
