Israeli airstrikes kill 31, injure 149 in Southern Beirut & Lebanon
KATHMANDU: Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that Israeli airstrikes on southern suburbs of Beirut and other southern regions killed 31 people and injured 149.
According to the Ministry’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center, 20 were killed and 91 injured in Beirut’s southern suburbs, while southern Lebanon saw 11 deaths and 58 injuries.
Authorities warned that the death toll could rise.
The attacks, targeting southern Beirut, prompted a wave of displacement after rockets were reportedly fired toward Israeli positions from southern Lebanon.
This marks the first rocket exchange since a ceasefire agreement was implemented in November 2024.
Under that agreement, Israeli forces were to withdraw from border villages and towns within 60 days, later extended by the Lebanese government to Feb 18.
Despite the accord, Israeli troops remain stationed at five locations, and ceasefire violations continue.
