KATHMANDU: Chaired by former Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the upcoming House of Representatives election is set to take place on Falgun 21 (March 5) as planned.

Speaking at the inauguration of the administrative building of Bharatpur Metropolitan City today, Prachanda emphasized that there is no alternative to holding the elections on the scheduled date.

“Even during the first Constituent Assembly elections, there were rumors until the day before that the elections might not take place. But the elections happened,” he said, urging political parties and citizens not to be uncertain about whether the election will occur this time. He stressed that everyone must work to ensure a free and fair election as scheduled.

On a different note, Prachanda addressed concerns following the Nepali Congress’ special convention, stating that questions have arisen among the public about the impact on the elections. He said, “Major party splits are neither good nor happy news. However, this will not affect the elections.”

Highlighting the development work in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Prachanda said the city has become a model for the country due to its proportional development.

He pointed out that contributions to physical infrastructure, education, health, employment, and the development of various cultural communities have made this possible.

During the event, Metropolitan Chief Renu Dahal shared that the building, costing Rs 53.32 crore, was constructed on seven katthas of land and has six floors. The construction agreement with Sharma–Sagarmatha–Sagun JV was signed on Shrawan 18, 2079 (3 Aug 2022).

The federal government contributed Rs 21.58 crore, Bagmati Province Rs 19.89 crore, and the metropolitan city Rs 4.50 crore towards the project.
