Chitwan vs Kathmandu, Biratnagar vs Karnali in NPL today
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Premier League (NPL) will feature two crucial matches on Friday as the race for playoff spots begins to intensify. Both games will be played at the TU International Cricket Grounds.
Chitwan Rhinos take on Kathmandu Gorkhas in the first match at 11:45 am, while Biratnagar Kings face Karnali Yaks in the second match at 4 pm.
Chitwan and Kathmandu are currently level on the points table with four points each, though Kathmandu have played one match more. Chitwan began their campaign with a win over Karnali but lost their second match to Lumbini. They bounced back strongly to hand Biratnagar their first defeat of the season, keeping themselves firmly in the playoff race.
Kathmandu also made a strong start, defeating the defending champions, Janakpur Bolts, in their opener. However, back-to-back losses to Sudurpashchim and Biratnagar derailed their momentum. A crucial win against Lumbini in their fourth match revived their top-four hopes. But another defeat would severely dent their chances of making the playoffs.
In the second fixture, Karnali Yaks, who have two points from three games, will be eager to keep their season alive with a win. After losing to Chitwan in their opening match, Karnali bounced back by beating Lumbini but fell again to Sudurpashchim in their third outing. A defeat to Biratnagar today would make their playoff ambitions increasingly difficult.
Biratnagar Kings, meanwhile, will look to recover from their first loss of the season against Chitwan. Although they appear well-positioned to qualify for the playoffs given their impressive form, another setback on Friday could jeopardize their bid for a top-two finish.
