KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Vice President Bishwprakash Sharma, under the leadership of Gagan Thapa, has denied claims of a party split, asserting that the NC remains fully unified.

Speaking to the Election Commission on Friday regarding official recognition, Sharma said the party’s Special General Convention only facilitated a leadership change in accordance with the party’s constitution.

He emphasized that the commission should update records based on the convention’s decisions and that no laws concerning political party splits are applicable in this context.

Sharma added that the Special General Convention followed a lawful and democratic process, and accusations of a split arising from misleading propaganda are unfounded.

He noted that attempts to influence the commission with threats of agitation are non-political in nature, expressing confidence that the commission will act impartially.

He recalled that the call for a Special General Convention was submitted to then Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, citing the absence of a regular convention as justification.

The convention, he explained, was necessary to ensure proper implementation of party statutes.
