KATHMANDU: Campaigning for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Thursday ended on Monday night, marking the beginning of a silence period until 5 pm on March 5. Polling will be held under the first-past-the-post system for 165 seats of the lower house from 7 am to 5 pm on Thursday.

POKHARA: The CPN-UML won all three constituencies in Kaski in the past two general elections. They party regards Kaski-2, in particular, as its stronghold.

KATHMANDU: An Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal Assistant Sub-Inspector died in a road accident in Ramechhap district on Monday morning. According to a statement issued by the APF Nepal, ASI Parshuram Yadav died on the spot when a vehicle carrying election materials met with an accident at Sirubari in Ramechhap Municipality-2 on Monday.

ITAHARI: A total of 26 candidates, including Harka Raj Rai aka Harka Sampang of Sharam Sanskriti Party (SSP), are in Sunsari-1 in the House of Representatives election scheduled for Thursday. Harka, who was elected mayor of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City as an independent candidate, has entered the parliamentary race before completing his term.

KATHMANDU: The identity of a Nepali national, who died in an Iranian drone attack in Dubai on Sunday, has been established. According to the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi, Diwas Shrestha (29) of Gorkha died in the attack.

KATHMANDU: Gold prices continued their upward climb in the domestic market on Monday, driven largely by surging international rates amid the ongoing Gulf crisis. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold increased by Rs 5,600 per tola (11.665 grams) to Rs 326,100 per tola on Monday.
