Nepse rally continues for sixth session; turnover rises to Rs 6.23 billion
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its gaining streak to six consecutive sessions on Tuesday, climbing 38.52 points to close at 2,712.49 points.
The index has gained 97.94 points over the six-day rally. This marks the longest uninterrupted winning run since August 27 last year, when the bourse ended an eight-day winning streak.
With Tuesday’s gain, the Nepse index breached the psychological 2,700-point level for the first time since February 2, signaling renewed investor confidence in the secondary market ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for Thursday.
Although the index slipped into red territory during early trading, it soon gained momentum and remained in the green throughout the session. Total turnover improved to Rs 6.23 billion, with 15.18 million units traded through 61,329 transactions.
Unit prices of 254 scrips advanced on Tuesday, while six declined and two remained unchanged. Ankhu Khola Jalvidyut Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 346.53 million worth of shares traded. Ridi Power Company Ltd and SY Panel (Nepal) Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 277.49 million and Rs 246.75 million, respectively.
Except for the Trading sub-index, which posted a nominal loss, all sectoral indices ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Hydropower sub-index, which was up by 2.13%. Next were the Mutual Fund and the Banking sub-indices with gains of 1.66% and 1.64%, respectively.
