Iran claims devastating strike on U.S. military base in Bahrain
KATHMANDU: Iran has claimed a major attack on the U.S. military base in Bahrain, reportedly destroying key facilities.
According to the IRGC-linked Fars News Agency, missiles and drones targeted the command and staff buildings in the Sheikh Isa area.
Footage released by Iranian media shows multiple strikes hitting distant targets, causing massive explosions. Iran claims the assault ignited fuel tanks and inflicted severe damage on the base.
The U.S. has not yet issued an official response. Earlier, smoke was seen rising from a U.S.-operated naval facility in Bahrain.
Amid escalating regional tensions, the U.S. State Department has ordered American citizens in Bahrain and over a dozen Middle Eastern countries to leave immediately, citing serious security threats.
This attack follows recent assaults on U.S. embassies in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, raising fears of a direct confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
