Why is insurance a symbol of ‘fear’ instead of ‘financial security’?

Kathmandu. Insurance is a financial protection system. Insurance gives people confidence in times of uncertainty. But, unfortunately, due to the misdeeds of the insurance companies, this promise of protection is often broken.

Many companies intentionally delay claim payment, deny the actual claim or cheat customers by underpaying them to avoid their liability. This misconduct is known as bad faith insurance in the insurance industry.

When an insured files a genuine claim, they expect the insurance company to resolve it fairly and honestly. But the reality is that many companies complicate the claims process. Sometimes there are unnecessary delays, sometimes unnecessary documents are required and sometimes the language in the insurance policy is misinterpreted to confuse the customer. Some companies even reject legitimate claims from customers in order to avoid paying compensation. Such behavior is not only a violation of professional duty but also against the law.

Many insurers often don’t understand the complex legal language of an insurance contract. As a result, the company’s misinterpretation or lack of a clear answer often puts the customer at a disadvantage. Many people get frustrated and give up their claims. This benefits the insurance company. However, the basic principle of insurance law is clear: no company can run away from its responsibility and the insured needs to behave well.

If a company intentionally delays or denies a claim without cause, it refers to misconduct. If you are a victim of this behavior, the first step is to be vigilant and protect evidence. It is important to keep a record of every conversation, written response, e-mail or phone conversation. This evidence lays the groundwork for further legal action.

The most effective approach in this case is to consult with an experienced insurance attorney. A professional attorney can analyze the language of the insurance policy and prove the company’s misconduct. If necessary, they can help negotiate a fair resolution or file a lawsuit in court. Attorney intervention often forces the company to reach a quick resolution.

The insurance industry is a trust-based industry. If promise and fairness are replaced by fraud and delay, people lose faith in the entire system. Therefore, state regulators must hold insurance companies accountable through regular monitoring and strict action. Consumers should also be aware of their rights. So that no institution has to do harm at will.

Ultimately, it’s a matter of fairness and accountability. Customers buy insurance with their hard-earned money in the hope of security; That security should not be lost because of abuse. Therefore, timely legal action, professional advice and public awareness are needed.

Silence is not the right approach if someone feels that their insurance claim is being unfairly delayed or rejected. The only right way is to seek legal action. Only by raising awareness about abuse in the insurance sector can we create a fair, transparent and humane insurance system. Where the rights of every customer are given the highest priority. –Raj Kishore Das/Insurance News BD
